Frequently Asked
Questions
1.
What is the difference between the Enchanted Fabric Lines: Painted,
Flair, and Mystiques?
Painted
Fabrics are hand painted with dyes and are near to
solid on one color fabrics, particularly with eveweaves. There
is more color variation on some colors of Aidas and Monacos,
but not as much with other fabric types (flair, mystique). These
colors are much more subtle than Flairs. With Painteds that
have multiple colors, there is a distinct line between the colors.
Good exampls of this are Sorbet, Dragon's Mist, Spring Meadow,
Summer Glade, etcetera. Please note: Due to the method we use
for painting, there ARE fronts and backs to Painted fabrics.
On Aidas in particular, you may notice a little spotting on
the back. This is due to fabric stiffness. You will not see
this on the front of your fabric!
Flairs
are a vibrant, mottled color. The color is more dramatic and
darker than in the Painted Fabrics.
Mystiques
are similar to painted as far as subtle color goes, but some
of the background fabric can show through, typically on fabrics
with one color. Fabrics that have multiple colors in it are
blended together moreso than the Painted Fabrics. Good examples
of this are Ocean Dreams Mystique.
2.
Are Enchanted Fabrics colorfast?
Enchanted
Fabrics uses Procion MX dyes and fixes the dye with a dye fixer
enabling the dye to bond with the fabric. We wash fabrics with
Synthrapol, a textile detergent and rinse several times. For
those not familiar with Procion MX dyes, these are the same
dyes used in clothing, which are washed often. Why did we put
on our packaging "Colorfast Not Guaranteed"? If you
hang your piece in direct sunlight, it will most likely fade
over time. If you wash a piece over and over, it will eventually
fade as does clothing.
There
are some interesting articles on lightfast testing and washing
your hand dyed fabrics and fibers done by Vikki Clayton here.
3.
What's the deal with shrinkage?
Sizes
are approximate. During the dye process, the fabrics are rinsed
and washed and rinsed again in hot water (as many times as is
necessary), so shrinking does occur. You will notice this most
in the cotton fabrics (Aidas, Monacos). If you want to stitch
a design on an 18x30 piece of Aida, your Aida will be cut to
18x30 and then serged. While shrinkage does occur during the
washing/rinsing process, this should not change the fact that
your piece will still fit on the fabric. The amount of holes
stays the same, even though the fabric shrinks.

How are shipping costs/time figured?
Please
see the Shipping page for more information on this and optional
shipping insurance.
5.
Does Enchanted Fabrics do custom sizes/colors?
Custom
sizes are absolutely available! Just email us for a quote. Enchanted
Fabrics will NOT attempt to copy another company's fabric if
you send us a picture. If we already have similar dye colors,
we will let you know and you can make that decision. If you
send us a picture of a design that you would like to have a
custom color done for and you give us an idea of what you want
but still allow us some artistic creativity, we will consider
doing a custom color for you. Please keep in mind, we are limited
by how dye takes to particular fabric types and the colors of
dye we have on hand. Custom colors may take longer than usual.
6.
How do I care for my Enchanted Fabrics?
Enchanted
Fabrics does not recommend leaving your fabrics in hoops or
Qsnaps for an extended period of time. We also do not recommend
storing the fabrics in the bag it is shipped in. This can cause
discoloration where the Qsnap holders are or at the fabric folds
in the bags. We do recommend rinsing your fabric in cold water
before stitching as there may be some slight bleeding. Enchanted
Fabrics recommends hand washing in cold water.
7.
What brand fabrics does Enchanted Fabrics use?
The
regular Aida and the monaco is made by Charles Craft. Jobelans
are made by Wichelt. All other fabrics, including Aida Opalescents
are Zweigart Fabrics. We do have Zweigart Aida on hand, but
it does not dye nearly as vibrantly as the Charles Craft Aida.
If you would like to request Zweigart aida, or are interested
in another fabric type, simply email us.
8.
How are the fabrics packaged?
All
fabrics are serged and come from a non-smoking environment.
They are individually packaged in bags with labels (unless you've
ordered multples, more than 2, of a small or smaller odd size).
Enchanted Fabrics are mailed in tyvek mailers which are water
proof and tear resistant.

If I want to stitch multiple things on the same color of fabric,
what should I do?
Dye
lots DO change, so if you want to stitch designs on the same
colored fabric, please order at the same time. Remember that
every piece will be different, but a larger batch of the dye
can be mixed up so that the tones of color are the same.
